Title insurance is indemnity insurance that protects the policy holder from financial loss stemming from defects in title. Unlike other insurance policies, this premium is paid only once and coverage exists during the entire time the policyholder maintains ownership of the property. Defects in title can include errors in public records, unknown liens and unknown heirs.
